Package Contents The following list describes the files included for updating the adapter PXE under BIOS and UEFI environments for the 8100 Series Converged Network Adapters (CNA). * x8xyyyyy.bin - Combined binary file, which includes the binaries for the firmware, PXE, FCode, UEFI, and BIOS. * update.bat - DOS batch file that calls the executable files to update the adapter PXE in the BIOS environment. * FlasUtil.exe - Utility to update multi-boot code and firmware. * VPD.exe - Utility to update the adapter's Vital Product Data. 2. Supported Adapters/Controllers * 8100 Series Converged Network Adapters 3. Supported Operating Systems * Please check the downloads section for your adapter model at www.qlogic.com or your OEM downloads site for a list of compatible operating systems. 4. Installing the Software 4.1. System Configuration This section provides user notes regarding the BIOS PXE (Preboot Execution Environment) feature contained in the 8100 Series CNA multi-boot package. PXE Boot Code is already included in the Boot Code image: x8xyyyyy.bin. * For flashing the BIOS PXE code, refer to the BIOS Readme.txt file. QLogic Banner during POST When the server powers on there will be two QLogic PXE banner displays per adapter similar to the example below (see notes). When PXE boot is enabled on an adapter port, the next system reboot will show the following PXE banner display on the modified port (see notes). Notes: PCI 3.0 compliant server: QLogic PCI 3.0 PXE v1.xx will be displayed. PCI 2.1 compliant Server: Qlogic PXE v1.xx will be displayed. PXE boot is disabled on the adapter ports by default. Enable QLogic PXE The following shows the response when the PXE gets enabled after selecting the Ctrl-T key sequence. Setup for PXE boot: Power on the server and Press F(x) to access the System Configuration and Boot Management Menu. Select QLogic NIC(PXE) entry and move it to the 1st Boot option. Reboot the server. Qlogic PXE Bootprom will automatically detect the PXE/Jumpstart Server and start the OS installation once the Operating SYstem is selected. Notes: 1.The following error may occur, if Qlogic PXE detects that the link is down: PXE NICStartUp: Link is down 2. The following error may occur, if Qlogic PXE did not detect a Boot Server: Client MAC Addr: xx xx xx xx xx xx GUID .... PXE-E51: No DHCP or Proxy DHCP offers were received. PXE-M0F: Exit Qlogic PXE ROM. ... ... 3. After Ctrl-T is pressed, server requires warm reboot (Ctrl-Alt-Del) for the change to take effect. 5. Additional Notes IMPORTANT: When installing an operating system from the PXE Server, please ensure the selected operating system supports the CNA adapter relative to the BIOS or the UEFI environment. Also ensure the supporting NIC and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) drivers for your CNA are loaded on the PXE Server. 6.
