I have recently started experimenting with SFS (Secure File System)
v1.1. This is probably one of the best security programs I have found
for vulnerable PCs. It acts as a background driver (similar to
Doublespace or Stacker) but instead of compressing data, it encrypts
it on the fly with only a minor performance degradation. These
"secure volumes" must reside on a separate partition (I found that an
unencrypted program partition and an encrypted data partition works
very well). Once a drive is mounted (made accessible) it can be
accessed normally, and can be dismounted (secured) with a hotkey of
DOS command. The program can also me set up to automatically dismount
a drive after a certain period of inactivity. Download a copy at...
ftp://garbo.uwasa.fi/pc/crypt/ . You may import it freely, but of
course, ITAR prevents you from legally re-exporting it out of the
US....go figure!
