SUPFINDER User's Guide V1.0November 1990 Operating System: VMS V5.0 Software Version: SUPFINDER V1.0IThis guide describes the menu driven on-line SUPFINDER tool which allows Ithe System Manager access to data stored in his or her License ManagementFacility (LMF).GThis guide is intended for use by External Digital Customers as-well-asInternal Digital Customers.HSUPFINDER users are expected to be well versed in System Management and Hhave access to the systems LMF also a basic understanding of VMS V5.0 orgreater.. Menus Overview. --------------OSUPFINDER Main Menu, this Main user's menu outlines the on-line SUPFINDER tool.DSUPFINDER Options Menu, explains the second option of the Main menu,+detailing the cross reference list options.JSUPFINDER System Options Menu, details the different configuration option available to the user.MSUPFINDER Node Selection Menu, details how to access cluster nodes vs remote nodes vs current nodes.BSUPFINDER Output Options Menu, explains how to direct your output. Please Note:L This tool is meant to be run interactively against either a Cluster, orLa Standalone system. If it is run against a Cluster, the SUPFINDER requiresNthat you know and enter all of the Cluster's nodes which are up and running atJthe time you execute the SUPFINDER. The SUPFINDER also requires that the Maccount executing it have enough default privileges to gain access to the LMFLdatabase. In processing a single node, the SUPFINDER will check that node'sLcommon LMF which is the default storage area for software licenses, and the LSYS$SPECIFIC:[SYSEXE]LMF$SYSTEM.LDB which in some installations, is used to Ostore VMS MUP's (Mandatory Update Paks). In processing the Cluster option, theMSUPFINDER will interrogate the common LMF (for the Cluster) via the 1st node Kwhich has been entered, and then proceed to check the SYS$SPECIFIC:[SYSEXE]PLMF$SYSTEM.LDB for each of the subsequent nodes, for any MUP's that might exist.HIf you see an informational error stating that the SYS$SPECIFIC:[SYSEXE]KLMF$SYSTEM.LDB does not exist for a particular node, do not worry, it just Kmeans that your system was not configured to carry this database, and that 6all of your licenses are stored within the common LMF.1 SUPFINDER Main Menu1 -------------------CThis section outlines the FIVE options that are available under theSUPFINDER Main Menu.LThe SUPFINDER Main Menu will give the System Manager access to the differentSUPFINDER functions and tables.!The SUPFINDER Main Menu lets you:6 1) Enter and process NODE/CLUSTER data for the LMF.
D	- This is the option which will allows you to enter data into, and B execute the entered information against a Cluster or StandaloneD system. If you choose this option, you will proceed to the other5 menus, and be allowed to enter in more information5 2) List the LMF Product Name Cross Reference List.C	- This is purely informational, and will allow you to list out the> file SUP_PROD_NAME_XREF.LIS, which has been placed in your SYS$MANAGER area. 3) List PAK Type Information.C	- This is purely informational, and will allow you to list out the= file SUP_PAK_TYPE_INFO.LIS, which has been placed in your SYS$MANAGER area. 4) List LMF Group Tables.C	- This is purely informational, and will allow you to list out the= file SUP_PRODUCT_GROUPS.LIS which has been placed in your SYS$MANAGER area.! 5) Exit the SUPFINDER Program.2 SUPFINDER Options Menu2 ----------------------BThis section outlines the two options that are available under theSUPFINDER Option Menu.$The SUPFINDER Options Menu lets you:, 1) List All Enabled PAKs on the system(s) A	- When choosing this option you will be shown all of the active F software PAKS which exist on your system. It will show both valid = license PAKS, and non-license PAKS (such as SUPs and TSPs)- 2) List All SUPs and TSPs on the system(s)C	- This option will just show the SUPs and TSPs which are currently+ registered as "active" the system's LMF.5 SUPFINDER System Option Menu ----------------------------BThis section outlines the two options that are available under theSUPFINDER System Option Menu.*The SUPFINDER System Option Menu lets you:* 1) Run SUPFINDER on a Stand Alone SystemC	- If this option is chosen you will be asked to enter one node forC which to execute the SUPFINDER for. This can either be the nodeE you are currently logged onto, or a remote node. If a remote nodeC is chosen, then you will be asked to supply a valid account nameF and password, for an account that has enough default privileges to = look at that system's common LMF and SYS$SPECIFIC:[SYSEXE] LMF$SYSTEM.LDB. 2) Run SUPFINDER on a ClusterG	- In this option you will be asked to enter all of the nodes which areI members of the cluster. It is important to enter only the nodes whichF are currently up and running at the time you execute the SUPFINDER.F You can also enter a remote cluster in this option; and you will beH asked for the proper account name and password to access the system'sH LMF database(s). In this option, the SUPFINDER will check the commonI LMF (via the node which has been entered first) for the whole cluster;G and then proceed to interrogate each subsequent node's SYS$SPECIFIC:F [SYSEXE]LMF$SYSTEM.LDB for any VMS MUP's that might exist. If you C know that all of the cluster shares only 1 common LMF, and that E none of the nodes contain the SYS$SPECIFIC:[SYSEXE]LMF$SYSTEM.LDB,C then you could simply choose option 1 in this menu for the wholeD Cluster; and then enter any of the Cluster's nodes from which to access the common LMF. 6 SUPFINDER Node Selection Menu6 -----------------------------@This section outlines the one option that is available under theSUPFINDER Node Selection Menu.+The SUPFINDER Node Selection Menu lets you:-Select the Node on which SUPFINDER is to RUN H(Please note: that you can access remote nodes and if you have selected 1the Cluster option you can enter up to 40 nodes.)N - If you have chosen the "Standalone" option from the System Options Menu, F you will then be asked to enter the node you wish to interrogate.K - If you have chosen the "Cluster" option from the System Options Menu, L you will then be asked to enter each of the nodes in the Cluster (whichM are up and running) one at a time. Once you have finished entering all L of the nodes, enter <cr> when the SUPFINDER asks for another node, and . SUPFINDER will continue to the next menu.2 SUPFINDER Output Menu ---------------------DThis section outlines the three options that are available under theSUPFINDER Output Menu.#The SUPFINDER Output Menu lets you: 1) Current Device / Screen.	- output will be paged to your current device! 2) File (enter full File name)6	- reporting output will be saved in the default file ; "sys$login:supfinder.lis" or the filespec of your choice 3) Print QueueA	- SUPFINDER will send the report to a valid print queue of your " choice. Default is "SYS$PRINT"
