bochs-2.0: description + notes
Bochs is a portable open source IA-32 (x86) PC emulator.
It includes emulation of the Intel x86 CPU, common I/O devices, and
a custom BIOS. Currently, bochs can be compiled to emulate a 386,
486, or Pentium CPU. Bochs is capable of running most Operating Systems
inside the emulation including Linux, Window 95, DOS, and recently
Windows NT4.
NOTE: You must tell your X server about the bochs fonts.
You can tell one X session to use them with:
% xset fp+ /usr/freeware/lib/X11/fonts/misc
To make the effect permanent for future X sessions you probably have
to edit some files in your X installation. For instance, you might
include the xset command above line in your
~/.xinitrc or
~/.xsession file, or edit
/var/X11/adm/Xservers
to extend the default fontpath.
FreeDOS IMAGE: You can run the included FreeDOS image with:
% bochs -f /usr/freeware/share/bochs/freedos/bochsrc
