Limitations with versions 07.35.41.02 release. 1. DS3300 Linux hardware initiator iSCSI solution is currently only supported when using a version of SANSurfer for iSCSI starting with version 5.00.32. 2. IBM AIX currently only supports the DS3400 storage subsystem. 3. During deletion of a logical drive it is possible that a "ghost" (I.E. a logical drive displayed with a dotted line picture) will be visible. If this occurs you will need to go to Modify -> Edit Host-to-Logical Drive Mappings. Then select the logical drive in question and click on the remove option. This will destroy the "ghost" logical drive. 4. Arrays created using RAID levels 3,5, or 6 that will be mapped to an AIX host, need to contain at a minimum five (5) hard drives. 5. VMware is currently only supported on the DS3300 using software initiator. 6. There is no Solaris management client for DS3000 storage subsystems. ======================================================================= 1.2 Enhancements ----------------- The DS3000 storage subsystem controller firmware version 07.35.41.01 used in conjunction with DS3000 Storage Manager 10.35.xx.xx provides support for; - DS3200 Storage Subsystem models 21x, 22x, 22T, HC3, and HC6 which supports the attachment of DS3000 EXP3000 Storage Expansion Enclosures. - DS3300 Storage Subsystem models 31x, 32x, 32T, HC3, and HC7 which supports the attachment of DS3000 EXP3000 Storage Expansion Enclosures. - DS3400 Storage Subsystem models 41x, 42x, 42T, HC3, and HC8 which supports the attachment of DS3000 EXP3000 Storage Expansion Enclosures. IBM DS3000 storage subsystem must be running one of the following controller firmware versions prior to upgrading to controller firmware version 07.35.41.02; 06.70.22.00, 06.70.24.00, 06.70.69.00, 07.35.41.00, or 07.35.41.001 2. IBM DS3000 Storage Manager host software version 10.35.xx.xx is required to manage DS3000 storage subsystems with controller firmware version 07.35.41.02 installed. 3. EXP3000 drive expansion enclosure ESM firmware version 01.96 or greater is required for this release. ======================================================================= 1.5 Level Recommendation for the update ----------------------------------------- 1. Storage Controller Firmware versions: a. DS3200: FW_DS3200_07354102 b. DS3300: FW_DS3300_07354102 c. DS3400: FW_DS3400_07354102 2. Storage Controller NVSRAM versions: a. DS3200 - Single Controller: N1726D32LR335V02.dlp b. DS3200 - Dual Controller : N1726D320R335V06.dlp c. DS3300 - Single Controller: N1726D33LR335V02.dlp d. DS3300 - Dual Controller : N1726D330R335V05.dlp e. DS3400 - Single Controller: N1726D34LR335V02.dlp f. DS3400 - Dual Controller : N1726D340R335V05.dlp Note: The DS3000 storage subsystems that are shipped from the factory may show the NVSRAM version with a different first character prefix other than the "N" prefixed as stated. As long as the rest of the version information after the first character are the same, both the manufacturing NVSRAM version and the "N" prefixed NVSRAM version are the same. You do not need to update your DS3000 storage subsystem with the "N" prefixed NVSRAM version as stated above. For example, for a DS34000, the N1726D340R917V15 and M1726D340R917V15 (or C1726D340R917V15 or D1726D340R917V15, etc...) versions are the same because both versions share the same "1726D340R917V15" string. The M1726D340R917V15 (or C1726D340R917V15 or D1726D340R917V15, etc...) version was loaded to the DS3400 storage subsystem at the factory. The N1726D340R917V15 version is the one that was posted to the DS3000 support web site for download. Refer to the following IBM System Storage™ Disk Storage Systems Technical Support web site for the latest released code levels. http://www.ibm.com/servers/storage/support/disk/ ======================================================================= 2.0 Installation and Setup Instructions ----------------------------------------- ATTENTION: If you have not already done so, please check the Dependencies section for ANY MINIMUM FIRMWARE REQUIREMENTS for the DS3000 storage server controllers, the drive expansion enclosure ESMs and the hard drives in the DS3000 configurations before upgrading the controller firmware. Check the information below to ensure the firmware update order BEFORE proceeding to upgrade the DS3000 controller firmware and NVSRAM files packaged with this README file. FAILURE to observe the minimum firmware requirement might cause your DS3000 storage subsystem to be OUT-OF-SERVICE. NOTE: Prior to performing the firmware update. Please save a support archive and then clear the Major Event Log. ATTENTION: The upgrade to controller firmware version 07.35.41.02 from controller firmware version 06.xx will require the user to schedule the firmware download during a maintenance window when no I/O is running on the storage subsystem. Do not attempt to upgrade the controller firmware while I/O is running to the storage subsystem. 2.1 Controller Firmware and NVSRAM Upgrade 2.1.1 Controller Firmware and NVSRAM Upgrade from controller firmware version 06.xx using the Controller Firmware Upgrade Tool To download the controller firmware and NVSRAM, perform the following steps: NOTE: More detailed information on how to use the Firmware Upgrade Tool can be found in "Appendix B.
