MigrateDB Converting Graph-Track Versions Below 5.0 to use Interbase Version 6 The program MigrateDB.exe was created to help convert the Interbase databases created by Graph-Track below Version 5.0 from Interbase Version 5 to Interbase Version 6. Before starting the MigrateDB.exe program STOP Graph-Track and all data collection. After Graph-Track has been stopped, execute the program MigrateDB.exe. The following list of options will be displayed. _______________________________________ | | | [X] Backup Database Files | | | | [X] Remove Interbase 5 References | | _______ __________ | | | OK | | CANCEL | | | ------- ---------- | --------------------------------------- The options should be run in the sequence presented. The first time the application is run, both check boxes will be checked. Click OK and wait for the application to finish. (Read the rest of this document for process details.) Additional Backups As part of the Backup Database Files process the system will be searched for additional GDB files to backup. A window will be displayed showing all the GDB files that were found with a check box next to each. To backup any additional GDB files check the box next to the files that are to be backed up. The GBK (backups) will be written to the same directory that the original GDB files are in. The backup will also replace any older GBK files of the same name. As indicated in the message area at the bottom of the selection list, only additional GDB (Interbase database) files that were created by the user and are specifically created as copies of Graph-Track database files should be selected from the list. If there is any doubt as then the database should not be selected for backup. _______________________________________________________________________________ |[]E:\Borland\Shared\Data\EMPLOYEE.GDB | |[]E:\Borland\Shared\Data\EMPLOYEE.GDB | |[]G:\Interbase\isc4.gdb | |[]G:\Interbase\examples\Database\employees.gdb | |[]G:\Interbase\examples\Database\intlemp.gdb | | | | _______ __________ | | | OK | | CANCEL | | | ------- ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |Note - Only select GDB files (database files) that need to be migrated. The | |only files that need to be selected in this window to be migrated are files | |that were created manually by the user copying existing GDB files. | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is possible to run the process in two stages. If the process is run in two stages the process will have to be started again for the second stage. The following are the steps to run the application in two stages. First uncheck Remove Interbase 5 References, click OK and wait for the application to finish. (Read the rest of this document for process details.) After the Backup completes, start the MigrateDB.exe again and uncheck Backup Database Files. Click OK and wait for the application to finish. (Read the rest of this document for process details.) After the Interbase 5 references have been removed from the system, Interbase Version 6 should be installed on the system. The install of Interbase Version 6 can be done as part of the install process for Graph-Track Version 5 or Hi-Command. After Interbase Version 6 has been installed, run the program MigrateDB.exe again. This time only one option will be available, as shown in the display. If the original display with 2 options is displayed, Interbase 6 was not installed properly. Try reinstalling Interbase 6 and then run MigrateDB.exe again. If the display only has the single item as shown, select OK. This will restore the backups that were created in the first step. (Read the rest of this document for process details.) ______________________________________________________________________________ | | | [X] Restore Database Files | | | | _______ __________ | | | OK | | CANCEL | | | ------- ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |Warning: Selecting OK will cause Interbase to be stopped and restarted. | |This can cause applications that use interbase to not function properly. If | |applications are running that use Interbase (i.e. Hi-Command), they should | |be stopped before selecting OK. | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NOTE: If Hi-Command is installed on the system, make sure Hi-Command is not running before continuing the conversion. If Hi-Command is running when the last step in the conversion process is run, Hi-Command will lose connectivity to its databases. If this occurs, Hi-Command will have to be stopped and restarted to correct the problem. (As indicated in the warning message above.) Additional Restores As part of the Restore Database Files process the system will be searched for additional GBK files to restore. A window will be displayed showing all the GBK files that were found with a check box next to each. To restore any additional GBK files check the box next to the files that are to be restored. The GDB (databases) will be written to the same directory that the original GBK files are in. The restore will also replace any older GDB files of the same name. As indicated in the message area at the bottom of the selection list, only additional GBK (Interbase database) backup files that were created as part of the backup step of this process should be selected from the list. If there is any doubt as then the backup should not be selected for restore. ________________________________________________________________________________ |[]E:\Borland\Shared\Data\EMPLOYEE.GBK | |[]E:\Borland\Shared\Data\EMPLOYEE.GBK | |[]G:\Interbase\isc4.gbk | |[]G:\Interbase\examples\Database\employees.gbk | |[]G:\Interbase\examples\Database\intlemp.gbk | | | | _______ __________ | | | OK | | CANCEL | | | ------- ---------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |Note - Only select GBK files (database backup files) that need to be migrated.| |The only files that need to be selected in this window to be migrated are | |files that were backed up manually by the user backing up existing GDB files. | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Process complete message: After the application completes, the following message will be displayed. ____________________________________ | | | Process Completed successfully | | ________ | | | OK | | | -------- | ------------------------------------ The application will terminate and close the window automatically when OK is clicked.
